News Release: For Immediate ReleaseSalt Lake Theological Seminary Approved By Lutheran Congregations In Mission For ChristSALT LAKE CITY, August 17, 2004 – Salt Lake Theological Seminary today announced that it has formalized a relationship with the Board of Trustees of the Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC). This agreement establishes Salt Lake Theological Seminary as an approved seminary where Lutheran pastoral candidates can earn their Master of Divinity degree in preparation for ordination within the LCMC. “As an interdenominational seminary, we are now blessed to be able to serve LCMC members. We hope that this becomes a model for providing theological education and spiritual training for pastoral candidates of other denominations as well,” said Ken Mulholland, seminary president. Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ is an association of congregations and individuals who are free in Christ, accountable to one another, rooted and grounded in the Scriptures and Lutheran Confessions, and working together to fulfill Christ's Great Commission to go and make disciples of all nations. LCMC was formed in March 2001. It is now an international organization, with 118 member congregations in twenty-six states in the US, as well as in Mexico and Vietnam. “LCMC is excited about working with Salt Lake Theological Seminary as we prepare pastors to serve our member congregations in the western states,” said National Service Coordinator Reverend Bill Sullivan. “We already have several students enrolled at the seminary this fall and look forward to seeing that number grow.” In addition to Utah, LCMC has western state member congregations in California, Washington, Arizona, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, and Oregon.
