SALT LAKE THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY
RAISES OVER $250,000 DOLLARS IN 30 DAYS
Salt
Lake City, APRIL 29, 2005 –
Less than thirty days after
launching an appeal to raise $500,000, Salt Lake Theological Seminary
has passed the half way mark.
“As of today, we have raised $250,924,” says
seminary President Don McCullough. “With just ten days left before the
appeal ends on May 12, we continue to press forward in the faith that we
will make our goal.” The money raised so far has come in gifts large and
small from individuals and church groups around the state and across the
country. “The broad based support from the community has been humbling
and gratifying at the same time,” McCullough adds.
The largest single donation
received is a gift of $50,000 from a local Christian businessman. The
smallest is $1 bill from an elderly woman with a walker. Most individual
gifts have been modest, in the $200 to $5,000 range.
Support from local church
congregations has also been evident. Westminster Presbyterian Church in
Fruit Heights donated $20,000 at the encouragement of its pastor Rev
Neal Humphrey, who sees the pressing need to train local candidates for
ministry in Utah. “We have to stop sending our ‘called’ people out of
state for training, because they leave and never come back! We have to
have a Christian seminary in Utah if we’re going to advance the Kingdom
of God, and that’s the role Salt Lake Theological Seminary plays,”
Reverend Humphrey says. He has issued a challenge to 25 other local
churches to follow his church’s lead in supporting the seminary.
Donations in support of the
seminary can be made at Brighton Bank’s City Center office at 311 South
State Street or mailed to Salt Lake Theological Seminary at PO Box 2096,
SLC UT 84110.
