SALT LAKE THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY RAISES OVER $520,000 DOLLARS: SCHOOL
WILL REMAIN OPEN AND KEEP ITS CURRENT BUILDING
SALT LAKE CITY, MAY 16, 2005
–Within fifty
days of launching an appeal to raise half a million dollars or risk
closure, the Board of Directors of Salt Lake Theological Seminary today
announced that the school has raised over $520,000.
“Praise God!” says Board Chairman Dr. Jeffrey Silliman. “People in
this community and across the country have opened their hearts and their
check books to make sure that Utah does not lose theological education.
Today, I can say with confidence that Salt Lake Theological Seminary is
here to stay.
We are profoundly thankful and humbled by the support we have
received.”
Donations to the campaign have come from many quarters and in all
sizes. The largest single gift received was $50,000; the smallest was a
$1 bill from an elderly woman with a walker. Most of the money has come
as modest gifts from individuals and church congregations in the local
area.
With the money raised, the seminary has brought accounts payable
current and has sufficient funds left over to move towards the future.
“Now the emergency fund raising is over, the seminary can focus on long
range goals and continue its mission of Christian education in the
Intermountain West,”
Silliman says. “We look forward to Summer School which starts on June
3 and a new intake of graduate students this fall.”
