Give to the Seminary Library

We Only Need 7,000 More Books

As Salt Lake Theological Seminary moves toward accreditation with the Association of Theological Schools (ATS), one of our biggest challenges will be expanding our growing library by another 7,000 volumes. The ATS acquisition guidelines identify requirements of a good seminary collection: We need to collect materials appropriate for theological study and the practice of ministry. These must represent the historic breadth of Christian thought and life. We must serve our local and regional community by maintaining appropriate archives.

You can help in four ways. First, we need cash donations to purchase new books and journal subscriptions. I keep lists of books that we need now to support our courses. Please contact me and ask how you can adopt a course. Second, we need older books from your library. We cannot even buy many of the things we would like to have. Third, books may be given as memorials for loved ones or in honor of respected friends and colleagues. Please ask about how to give memorial or honorary books. Fourth, we need volunteers to help catalogue the hundreds of books that we acquire each month. Please call and volunteer your time. We will provide all the necessary training.

Will you join me in completing this exciting challenge? Think of the remarkable resource this library continues to be for our students and the Christian community in Utah. I may be reached at my email address jlw@slts.edu or my office phone (581-1900 ext 121).

How to adopt a course at SLTS for as little as $500:

You can adopt a course for a school year. This powerful strategy will help us meet the Association of Theological School’s requirement of supporting research for the courses we teach at SLTS. Here is how it works:

Professors for each course keep a list of most needed books and journals. When you adopt a course, our library staff purchases the highest priority books and journals and records them as a gift from you in support of the professor and the course. At the end of the course, you will receive a list of purchases in your name, and a note of thanks from the professor. Please email me (jlw@slts.edu) or call me (581-1900 ext 121) to learn which courses are available and the adoption cost.

How to donate used books:

Ship your books in a secure box with media rate postage. Please print and use this form to donate your used books to SLTS. We will photocopy your completed form(s) on SLTS letterhead to serve as your tax receipt.
